The Sun Temple of Elizabeth Diamond
CHAMBER III - The Art Gallery
I AM Awake

This painting has an overlay of a varied background to emphasize the meditative form of the figure seated in a lotus position. Here Elizabeth portrays the feeling of serenity through the blue color which puts emphasis upon the figure through the use of the white color.
The Buddhist theme of seeking tranquility through silence is strongly portrayed in this painting. Ironically this painting is entitled ‘I am Awake’, although the figure appears to be asleep.
The deeper meaning of this painting:
The meaning of this painting appears to be a paradox. (Something that seems contrary to appearances.) Here Elizabeth portrays the true meaning of mediation. When our bodies become still and silent, we transcend from our physical self to our inner self. It is then we become awake to our real self which imbues us with a profound peace. This then can be compared to a heavenly state or a nirvana.
